Community Safety

Peace Officers

Our staff consists of 2 Community Peace Officers (John BISHOP and Terry BEST). We currently have 2 marked patrol vehicles and one off highway vehicle (Quad) which you probably have seen out and about the County. With the County of Stettler covering just under 4,410 square kilometers, we have a very large area to cover and we usually log between 10,000 to 12,000 kms per month of patrol and inspection time. Our duties vary and cover investigation of complaints, commercial vehicle enforcement, traffic enforcement, compliance with overweight/over dimensional permits and on-going road inspections to ensure the integrity of our road structure.

Emergency Management·

In addition to Protective Services duties, John BISHOP is designated as the Director of Emergency Management ( Disaster Services) and Terry BEST is one of the Deputy Directors· of Emergency Management along with Phil HOLTON. With those positions we are continually involved in the planning and training issues surrounding emergency management for the Town and County of Stettler. With changes in the old Disaster Services Act, the summer villages now have the authority to declare their own local state of emergency, which they did not have previously. Over the past few months, we have been working with the summer villages of Rochon Sands, White Sands, Villages of Big Valley, Donalda, Botha, Gadsby, Town of Stettler and the County of Stettler to join together to form a regional framework agreement for emergency management.· This will allow all of us to work together under a mutual agreement in a time of emergency.· This agreement has now been finalized to provide emergency management services.
